The Zarzamora Creek Trail is slated to be constructed in two phases. Phase one is approximately 1.0 miles long with 10′ wide concrete hike and bike trails extending from 29th Street to Memorial Street. Phase two is approximately 0.45 miles long, will be constructed with the same 10′ wide trails and extend from Memorial Street to Alderete Park. Along the trail, there will be eight street connections that will allow the community to easily hop onto the trails for a bike ride, jog or walk along the creekway. A pedestrian bridge will allow recreators to cross the creek with ease and a trailhead at San Ignacio will provide a place to rest and recharge.
The City of San Antonio’s Apache Creek Soil Remediation Project completed excavation of contaminated soil on the upper bank of Apache Creek and reconstruction of the bank with healthy soil in Spring 2026. The project worked across a 450-foot section of the bank of Apache Creek east of South Brazos Street. The excavation took place on the south bank of the creek and did not disrupt access to the trail system on the north bank. The project reconstructed the bank and returned it to its current condition. This section of Apache Creek will later be restored as part of the federal Westside Creeks Ecosystem Restoration Project.
